About Me

— Ms. Patty

I began my dance studies in Monterey, California, with Patricia Wester. As a child, I had a personal audition with Asaf Messerer, ballet master of the Bolshoi Theatre, and performed with the Bolshoi in its production of “Ballet School” at the San Francisco War Memorial Opera House.

Although accepted to the Royal Ballet School at age 10, it was not until I was 16 that I began to study full-time with England’s Ballet Rambert. Later, under the tutelage of John Hart, C.B.E., former Royal Ballet Assistant to the Director, I received my MFA in Classical Ballet from U.S. International University, where I later joined the faculty. I performed principal roles created for me with Ballet International and San Diego Ballet. I also directed and taught in London, served as school Principal at the San Diego Ballet School, and directed and taught at the USIU Conservatory of the Arts.

Before moving to Colorado, I was the founder and Director of West Coast Ballet Theatre and La Jolla Festival Ballet and Dance Center in Southern California for 11 years.

In 1997, I founded the Colorado Ballet Society with the mission to provide aspiring dancers with superior training in a teaching environment that challenges the individual to attain new levels of excellence. The studio is currently celebrating its 26th season, has been voted ‘Best of the Springs’ for ten years, and received four Pikes Peak Arts Council Awards for its productions and an Arts/Business/Education Consortium Arts Award for its Dancer for a Day program. I also founded the studio’s resident youth companies, including Colorado Youth Ballet, Connexus Dance Collective, Elevate Productions, and Praise Dance Ensemble. Over the years, Colorado Ballet Society has produced more than 134 productions, including numerous full-length ballets, and engaged in artistic collaborations, performing with virtually every musical organization in the Pikes Peak region.

I am an ABT® Certified Teacher, for Pre-Primary through Level 5. My former students have gone on to dance with more than 30 professional companies, including the world-renowned American Ballet Theatre, English National Ballet, Czech National Ballet, Ballet West, Houston Ballet, and Washington Ballet. Additionally, students have been accepted into over 60 prestigious dance schools and trainee programs. I created the concept of A Colorado Nutcracker and produced and directed the production in 2017 and 2018. A Colorado Nutcracker highlights the historical characters of the Colorado Springs community, celebrating the inspiring founding families of the Front Range. The specially designed backdrops beautifully depict local scenery while reflecting the unique history of Colorado Springs in 1907.

In 2021, I sold the Colorado Ballet Society but remain committed to my role as an instructor at the studio, teaching and mentoring the students I have been developing for the past decade. Additionally, I enjoy coaching new students, young instructors, and studio owners, inspiring them to take their skills and abilities to the next level.

Testimonials

Angela Wood

English National Ballet

Ms. Patty taught me how far I could push myself and how to conduct myself in whatever atmosphere I entered. I owe all my incredible opportunities to her and her commitment and belief in me. She can't help but leave a legacy of excellence and love wherever she goes. I'm truly indebted to her and honored to know her.

Colton West

Ballet Idaho, Eugene Ballet, and

Canada's Ballet Jörgen

When I met Ms. Patty, it was a real turning point for me in my training—it went from me loving to dance and dancing a lot, to learning how to dance, to dance safely, and to dance correctly. I also learned good discipline and work ethic--that has been valuable for me in my professional career.

Gabriell Vidano

United Ballet Theater

I would like to thank Ms. Patty for challenging me and caring so deeply for all of us. She is a constant source of wisdom and experience and has helped me realize my goals and dreams over the past years. She is an incredible mentor and has truly inspired me to strive for excellence.

Emma Michaux

Boulder Ballet

Ms. Patty is the most incredible instructor, mentor, and role model. She has been such an inspiration to me, and I'm so thankful for her. She has given all her students an immeasurable amount of love and care. I can never thank her enough for her investment in my dancing. I would not be the person I am today without her.

Gracie Mientka

U.S. International Ballet

I am so thankful for Ms. Patty, who constantly works to provide individualized instruction and care and pours so much into her students to help them succeed.

Daniel Brown

Ms. Patty taught me how to refine my technique into something worth watching. She always pushes you to be your best while respecting and prioritizing your physical and mental health.

Joe McCaleb

Physical Therapist

I've seen the way Ms. Patty works with her dancers and how amazing they are. So many people look at her with such high esteem and are so grateful to work with her in so many ways--myself included. She's an absolute difference-maker in people's lives.

DONNA LORRIG

Physical Therapist

My three daughters have all danced with Ms. Patty over the past 23+ years. Our eldest daughter received a dance scholarship to college and became part of a professional dance company. The younger two have enjoyed all their experiences as well and have grown in so many beautiful ways as a result of the training and mentorship they received from

Ms. Patty.
